President Abraham Lincoln:
~ "All things most desirable for mankind's welfare are to be found in It. ( The Bible.}
The only assurance of our nation's safety is to lay our foundation in morality and religion." ~

that all will yet be well. To His care commending you, as I hope in your prayers you will commend me,

~ “Pres. Lincoln's Proclamation on Prayer and Fasting,” March 30, 1863:
“And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God,
to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy
and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history,
that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord. ~

~ “ That I am not a member of any Christian church is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures;
and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general,
or of any denomination of Christians in particular....I do not think I could myself be brought to
support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, or scoffer at, religion. ~

~ On Oct. 3, 1863, Lincoln issued a Proclamation on Thanksgiving:
“No human counsel has devised nor has any mortal hand worked out these great things.
They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins has nevertheless
remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged
as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. ....

.... I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States,
and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands,
to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next,
as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” ~

~ Baltimore- Sept. 7, 1864 when a group of loyal black people presented a copy of Holy Writ to Lincoln:
“In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man.
All the good the Saviour gave to the world was communicated through this book. ....

are to be found portrayed in it. To you I return my most sincere thanks
