"Las Vegas' Sunrise Hospital -No Place To Be Sick" .
.
Gerry M. Kaye
Nov. 4, 2005- For an elderly relative, a loved one, retiring in Las Vegas, Nevada, what happens in Vegas' neglectful doctor to patient care and Sunrise Hospital patient care should be well known. The terrible treatment there, by some attending nurses and doctors to a family member and his caregiver that resulted in his death is stunningly and criminally shameful. Rude, persecutive, unsympathetic, neglectful nurses; cardio-doctors frightening the patient and giving incorrect surgical treatment that proved fatal, are some of the many sickening complaints against that institution that belies the public trust of decency. Las Vegas' Sunrise Hospital is no place to be sick. What is wrong with the U. S medical profession that ranks highest with so many mistakes? The investigation of the Louisiana Hospital allegedly doing "mercy killings" of patients during the Katrina flooding is incredible and perhaps very symptomatic of a very sick profession. Where is the code of mercy, decency and compassion that should be the foremost priority of caring for the infirmed? No doubt there are many U. S. hospitals with a far better record, but according to recent investigation, too many are falling behind. Extreme caution should be taken before any hospitalization. Ask for records, ask doctors and neighbors for recommendations. Let there be more governmental concern and intervention against the violators. Sick people deserve better protection from a federal government that claims to "protect the American people".

3/17/06 Study: "U. S. Provides "Woefully Mediocre" Health Care for All".
New England Journal of Medicine- Startling research from the biggest study ever of U.S. health care quality suggests that Americans, rich, poor, black, white, get roughly equal treatment, but it's woefully mediocre for all. "This study shows that health care has equal-opportunity defects," said Dr. Donald Berwick, who runs the nonprofit Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Cambridge, Mass. The survey of nearly 7,000 patients, considered only urban-area dwellers who sought treatment, but it still challenged some stereotypes: These blacks and Hispanics actually got slightly better medical treatment than whites; once in treatment, minorities' overall care appears similar to that of whites.NEWS: 11/04/05 "Probe Finds Dose Fatal to Calif. Patient"
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The California Department of Health Services determined that in a second instance, officials at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara were "deficient" in their care of Josephine Frances Hart, a 12-year-old girl hospitalized with pneumonia who died the same day she received a double dose of the drug epinephrine. "The death of this young girl is tragic, and we're holding the hospital responsible," said Lea Brooks, a health services spokeswoman. State health regulators cited earlier this week at another hospital, Kaiser Permanente Santa Teresa Medical Center, for a similar infraction of giving the wrong medication. Please
