Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits because the kidneys cannot function properly without enough water. When they don't work to capacity, some of their load is cast on to the liver.
One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But, if the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat, more fat remains stored in the body, and weight loss stops.
Drinking enough *water is the best treatment for water retention. When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells). This can show up as swollen feet, legs and hands. Diuretics offer a temporary solution, at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a threat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns.
The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give the body a needed amount of plenty of water. Only then, will stored water be released.
If there is a constant problem of water retention, excess salt may be to blame. The body tolerates sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt intake, the more water the system retains to dilute it. Getting rid of unneeded salt is often accomplished by just drinking more water. As it's forced through the kidneys, it takes away excess sodium.
The overweight person needs more water than the thin one. Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water.
Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that often follows weight loss- shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient.
Water helps to rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has more waste to get rid of--all that metabolized fat must be shed.
Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste and relieves a sluggish system.
Water can restore regularity. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Drinking enough water can restore regularity.
How much water is enough? On the average, a person should drink about eight 8 oz. glasses every day. That's about 2 quarts.
The overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 lbs. of excess weight. The amount should also be increased if exercising heavily and in very dry weather.
Water should be preferably cold to be absorbed into the system more quickly than warmer water. Some suggest that cold water helps burn calories.
To utilize water most efficiently during weight loss, follow this schedule:
Morning: 1 quart consumed over a 30 min. period.
Noon: 1 quart consumed over a 30 min. period.
Evening: 1 quart consumed between 5 and 6:00.
When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced. When this happens there is reached a "breakthrough point", which means:
Endocrine-gland function improves.
Fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost.
More fat is used as fuel because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat.
Natural thirst returns.
There is a loss of hunger almost overnight.
If drinking enough water stops, the body fluids will be thrown out of balance again, with fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. Forcing another breakthrough will be needed to remedy the situation.

World Development Movement- MEXICO CITY - Governments, not private companies, should take the lead in improving public access to safe drinking water, representatives of 148 countries said Wednesday at the end of a 7 day forum on improving global water supplies. The WDM org. has launched the report, Pipe Dreams, on the eve of the United Nations' World Water Day. The forum's declaration, adopted Wednesday, states that "governments have the primary role in promoting improved access to safe drinking water. U.N. Sec.-Gen. Kofi Annan said some 6K people, most of them children, die from water-related causes every day. .. the goal is to reduce by half the number of people without regular access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015. The forum focused on the developing world's growing reliance on bottled water bought from private companies. Worldwide, the industry is now worth about $100B per year. Anti-corporate forces & other critics say govts. should instead be improving tap water supplies.

Due to testing of bottled water found to be harmfully contaminated, it is advised to check labels to identify purification process.
